What causes frequent headaches and sudden mood swings?

Question by JoJo: What causes frequent headaches and sudden mood swings?
I am a little worried about my boyfriend. He has been having painful headaches and they cause him to cry. The headaches are sudden after being angry or having sex. Anybody have any ideas?

Likely a surge in blood pressure, which can cause severe headaches. This, in turn, causes the pain. He might want to look into a blood pressure medication….i.e. seeing a dr.

I would strongly advise seeking specialist help, there is a possibility that this may be due to blood pressure or possibly raised intercranial (i.e. inside the head) pressure. Other less potentially serious problems may be causing this, depending on where the headaches are, how long they last etc. However, a simple blood pressure check and a look into his eyes with an opthalmoscope should eliminate the more serious diagnoses.
Hope this helps, good luck.

I believe he suffers from migraines. They can be quite debilitating as my brother can attest. They have new treatments for these now that have proved quite effective.

give him a notebook to keep a headache diary & plenty of water. he can call a neurologist for an appointment to discuss the pain.

When I read the first line I was going to say pregnancy..

But since it’s your boyfriend i dint think that’s the cause.

You should take him to the gp and they can help him.

It could be due to a lot of stress..

Hm it sounds to me like he is maybe having some postpartum depression or maybe stages of it did he ever suffer any sort of trauma in his life recently or throughout his life? & also the headaches may be migraines not headaches themselves I unfortunately have the pleasure (sarcasm Haha) of having migraines & suffer from them it’s really horrible pain & I often cry about it because no pain pill works I have taken some extremes when it comes to my migraines, from normal ibuprofen to Excedrin to Tylenol 3 nothing works. My suggestion is maybe having him see a doctor to tell him what is causing his pain & see if the mood swings are something worse.

I wish you luck.
